Move Over Movember; Here Comes Dinovember!

Parents Refe and Susan Tuma started a tradition four years ago in 2012 where they convince their children that every night, their plastic toy dinosaurs come to life and get into all sorts of mischief.

With work, school, extra-curricular activities and whatever else life has to throw at you; why would anyone want to devote extra time and energy to thinking up and executing fun ways to place dinosaurs for an entire month??

Well, the Tuma’s do it because “in the age of Ipads and Netflix, we don’t want our kids to lose their sense of wonder and imagination.  In a time when the answer to all the world’s questions are a web-search away, we want our kids to experience a little mystery.  All it takes is some time and energy, creativity and a few plastic dinosaurs.  Childhood is fleeting, so let’s make sure it’s fun while it lasts.”

Dinovember couldn’t come at a better time because Famiizuu’s theme for November is “Dinosaurs”.

If you think you are up for the challenge and want to join in on the fun with your own family, you can follow along with Dinovember and join the Facebook page to see what other dinosaurs are up to every night!

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Have the dinos come out after Halloween. Great way to eat some treats without getting in trouble from your littles ;)

Start a Dino Rock Band

Dinos sure like to eat but they're not very good in the kitchen...what a mess!

Dinos swimming in a sea of ... toilet paper? Looks like they'll need to have some potty training.

Even dinos enjoy playing games with their family.

Tea party time!

Movie night in Dinoland! "Not the mama!"

Argh! A treasure hunting we will go! What loot will they find tonight.

Role play is a very important aspect of childhood. Once the little ones find their mischeivious friends, talk about the silliness that they got into and ask if they would have done anything differently. It's a great opportunity to discuss rules in the house in a fun way that don't make the kids think they are in trouble. What sort of mischiel will your dinos get into?
